Can Long Distance Relationships Work
There are many people these days that are involved in long distance relationships, their reasons for doing this differ. You will no doubt see that this happens most commonly between young couples as they often move out of home to go to college.
There are different debates going around as to the effectiveness of long term relationships. I honestly believe for a number of reasons that they do not work out.
For the following example I will use a young male who was living at home with his parents. And before moving to college he spends all of his spare time with his girlfriend, the makings of a long distance relationship. The theory is that he will still see his girlfriend in the holidays and then once his studies are finished the relationship can resume.
Unfortunately man is an animal; it’s all too tempting for young males to cheat when they’re away at college. With the constant parting and drinking, the temptation to cheat at college could be way too much.
It is normally the case that if a man thinks that he can get away with being unfaithful, then he probably will be, and a long term relationship is the perfect setting for this. The only problem with your partner cheating in a long distance relationship is that there’s less chance of finding out about it.
Another reason why long term relationships can be doomed is because people grow apart. While someone’s away they can develop new friendship groups and get used to life without their partner.
The only way that I can see a long distance relationship working out is if it is only for a short amount of time. It is most probably not going to work if you are going to be apart for several years.
If you’ve recently broke up with your partner because of a distance issue but they want to give things another go you should think long and hard about it. There is no point just going to get back with your ex for some company, as you spend that much time apart you are pretty much always alone anyway.
